2025 Conflict Research Society Conference: Legitimacy in Conflict and Peace
Between 17-19 September 2025, Dorota Woroniecka-Krzyzanowska participated in the 62th Annual Conference of the Conflict Research Society. The conference gathered researchers from various academic disciplines, practitioners and policymakers to explore the theme of legitimacy in conflict and peace. During the conference, Dorota presented a research paper “Legitimacy through reconstruction: The case of Baghdad in the 1990s.” Based on research conducted in the framework of “Made in Iraq” project, the paper showed complex ways in which post-Gulf War reconstruction was used to regain individual and collective agency, assert legitimacy of the Iraqi state and tighten the regime’s grip over its population.
